Those who wish to become notaries in Iowa now have the ability to submit an “Application for Commission as Notary Public” through Fast Track Filing. To learn how to submit an application for commission, follow the steps below:
Step One:
Once you are logged in, you will see a "Home" screen. At the top of the home screen page, there will be a navigation menu—click on "Notary."

Step Two:
A drop-down menu will appear. Click on "Original Notary Commissions."
Step Three:
You will now be redirected to the "Application for Commission as Notary Public" page. Enter your name and home contact information. Then, enter your home address, phone number, and home email address.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your home information private from public view, select "Yes" to the corresponding question.
Step Four:
Next, fill in your employer’s name and contact information. Provide their name, workplace address, work phone number, and work email address.
Step Five:
Next, fill out the Preferred Contact Method, Qualifications, Electronic Records, Remote Notarizations, and Bilingual Notary Registry sections. These sections are for specifying your preferred contact method, qualifications, and practices.
Step Six:
Now it’s time to sign the electronic document. Affirm your commitment to and understanding of the provided statement, and then electronically sign by typing in your full legal name.
Step Seven:
Review your application for inaccuracies and then click “Review & Pay.” After reviewing your application, complete all payment forms that appear. Please note that payment is due at the time of submission and the fee is $30.
Note: It is important to review the document thoroughly for possible errors before completing your submission. If you would like to save your progress and return to your application another time, click “Save Work.”
After you click "Review & Pay" the below screen will appear.
To make corrections, click on the "Back to Form" button.
Step Eight:
After reviewing and confirming that all information is accurate, click "Add to Cart," and then click "Finish and Check Out."
Please note that you should see a message saying that the filing has been added to your cart successfully.
Step Nine:
Next, select a payment method and fill in the required information for payment.
Step Ten:
Lastly, once you are finished with the previous steps, click “Submit to File” at the bottom of the screen.
If your submission was successful, you will see the text “Filing Submission Status: Success” on your screen.
Congratulations! Your application has been successfully submitted. Your submission will be reviewed by the Secretary of State’s Office, and you will be notified by email when the filing is complete.
Once the submission is complete, you will be able to see your submission in your Dashboard.
To access your Dashboard:
- Visit Fast Track Filing (https://filings.sos.iowa.gov/)
- Sign in with your Username and Password
- Click on “Notary” and then click on “Dashboard”
